Frequently Asked Questions
Have a question about our school? We’ve got you covered. We’ve put together the answers to some of our most asked questions to help you out. And if you don’t find an answer here, you are welcome to contact us!
Does Port Allegany provide bus transportation?
We do provide transportation and consider it a privilege for students. We expect students to adhere to basic rules of good conduct and safety, just as they do in the classroom. You may visit our district Transportation page for information about bus routes.
Back to TopMay students drive to school?
We prefer that students ride the bus to school, but students may drive to school if necessary. Those who drive should come directly to school and park their vehicles in the student lot. Students must drive slowly on campus and use caution while driving and parking.
Back to TopDoes the school have a dress code?
We designed our dress code to be as flexible as possible while maintaining an atmosphere that is appropriate for learning. We require outfits worn to school to be appropriate for a co-educational community of young people who value the importance of decency, good taste, modesty, and regard for others. We do not permit clothing that is detrimental to the health, safety, or welfare of students or that disrupts the educational process.
We do not allow fishnet tops, tank tops, strapless blouses or shirts, muscle shirts, bare-back or bare midriff shirts, T-shirts or clothing with offensive advertising, clothing that implies vulgarity, clothing that depicts alcohol or drugs, extremely short shorts, or cut-offs.
Back to TopWhat if my child must be absent?
We expect students to attend school on a regular basis, and we can’t emphasize enough how important this is. If your child must be absent, please provide a note to the attendance secretary upon your child’s return to school, stating the specific reason for the absence. Also, students absent during either session of the school day—morning or afternoon—cannot participate in public programs or practices that day. Students who miss Friday’s afternoon session may not participate or practice on Saturday.
Back to TopWhat happens if my child has an appointment during school hours?
If it is necessary for us to excuse your child before the regular dismissal time, please send a note to school signed by a parent or legal guardian. Bring requests to the attendance office or principal’s office for approval before the enrolling period. Please only make such requests for urgent reasons.
Back to TopAre cell phones allowed on campus?
Yes. However, cell phones may not be used during instructional time in the building.
Back to TopMy child is a senior. Where do we find help with choosing and applying for college?
Our Guidance and Counseling Department is always available to help our students and their parents plan for college. Please give us a call or stop by our office to set up an appointment. You can also visit our Guidance page for more information or check our Guidance Calendar to view scholarships and other important deadlines.
